So You Received Your New Plants! What's The Next Step?

In this blog post, we'll explore some tips for acclimating plants that have been recently delivered in the mail.

Unpack the plants as soon as possible

When your new plants arrive in the mail, it's essential to unpack them as soon as possible. Plants can be stressed by being cooped up in boxes for extended periods, and leaving them in their packaging for too long can cause further damage. As soon as you receive your plants, carefully remove them from their packaging and inspect them for any damage or signs of stress.

Give the plants time to adjust

Plants need time to adjust to their new surroundings, and it's essential to give them time to settle in. During this adjustment period, it's essential to keep a close eye on the plants and monitor their progress. You may notice some signs of stress, such as wilting, yellowing leaves, or brown spots. Don't be alarmed if you see these signs - it's natural for plants to go through an adjustment period. With a little extra care, they will bounce back. Generally, you should not disturb your plant for at least 3-5 weeks to make sure the plant does not receive any more stress from shipping. Below is a detailed guide on how to acclimate your plants after unboxing.

Receiving your plant in soil

If you received your plants in soil, do not disturb the plant. If the soil is still moist, you do not have to water the plant until the soil is dry.

If the soil is dry, water the plants with water mixed with rooting hormones. Let the soil fully dry before watering again.

Please do not repot the plant for at least 4-5 weeks (or until you see new roots grow). After this acclimation period you can pot the plant in soil and water as needed.

Keep your plant in a warm spot (74-78F) with good air flow and provide sufficient light (bright indirect light from the sun or from grow lights). Make sure to keep the humidity between 65-85%.

Receiving your plant bareroot in moss

If you received your plants bareroot wrapped in moss, gently plant the plant in an airy aroid mix. Water the plants with water mixed with rooting hormones. Let the soil fully dry before watering again. Keep your plant in a warm spot (74-78F) with good air flow and provide sufficient light (bright indirect light from the sun or from grow lights). Make sure to keep the humidity between 65-85%.

Receiving your plant in perlite

If the pot has no drainage holes:

Gently poking a few holes in the pot/cup and water the plant daily. Yes, DAILY. You cannot overwater perlite. If you cannot or prefer not to make holes in the pot/cup, you can still water the plant as follow: Water top down so that the water reaches half the root system. Water again when the water is at 5-10% the volume of the cup.

Please do not repot the plant for at least 3-4 weeks. After this acclimation period you can pot the plant in soil and water as needed.

Tips on how to water your plants

Watering is a crucial aspect of caring for plants, but it's especially important during the acclimation period. When plants are shipped, they may have gone without water for an extended period, and they may need a little extra hydration to get them back on track. However, it's important not to overwater the plants, as this can cause root rot and other problems. The key is to water the plants carefully, making sure that the soil is moist but not saturated.

Be patient

Finally, it's important to be patient when acclimating your new plants. It can take some time for plants to adjust to their new environment, and it's essential to give them the time and care they need to thrive. With a little extra attention and care, your new plants will soon be thriving in their new home.

In conclusion, acclimating plants that have been newly arrived in the mail requires a little extra care and attention. By unpacking them as soon as possible, giving them time to adjust, watering them carefully, providing the right light conditions, and being patient, you can help your plants thrive in their new environment. With a little extra effort, your new plants will soon become an essential part of your home.
